Local MP congratulates self-build specialists Timber Innovations

Timber Innovations has been endorsed and congratulated by Solihull MP Julian Knight. The company has been enjoying year on year growth since its launch in 2011, is thriving due to the increasing popularity of self-build, and was recently short-listed for a prestigious national award.

Mr Knight, a member of the Parliamentary Communities and Local Government Select Committee, whose brief includes housing, and who was property editor of a national newspaper prior to becoming an MP at last year’s General Election, paid a visit to its Timber Innovations headquarters in Solihull. He was given a tour of the company’s on-site factory, and introduced to staff and senior members of management.

“Self-build is a growing trend locally, and throughout the country, and I’m delighted that a Solihull company is so successful,” said Mr Knight. “It was given a big boost in April, through the introduction of The Self Build and Custom Housebuilding Act, which means that all councils in England now have a duty to keep a register of individuals and groups who wish to pursue self-build projects, and are looking for land to purchase,” he said.

“It has been described within the industry as one of the most significant ever developments for those people wishing to build their own home, and it is lovely to hear that business is booming for Timber Innovations, and to meet the team behind the success story.”

Indeed, the demand for advice from would be self-builders has led Timber Innovations to set up ‘Innovations PLUS’ a subsidiary department that does more than supply the timber frame solutions to new homes, but to guide clients all the way through a self-build project from start to finish.

Said company director Rob Jones: “We were finding that clients who came to us to discuss timber frame solutions to their property were continually seeking our advice about the whole process, from finding land, an architect, to choosing the right team for their project.

“Building someone’s dream home is a big responsibility that we take very seriously, and Innovations PLUS was launched to provide a wrap-around service of the complete self-build process.”

Timber Innovations is shortlisted in the ‘Best Self Build Project’ for the 2016 Structural Timber Awards, and will learn if they have won at a gala dinner, conveniently at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, later this month.
