Lendlease's CLT 10-storey building opens in Brisbane
Lendlease is celebrating the opening of Australia’s tallest timber-constructed commercial building, 25 King in Brisbane.
The 10-storey 45m-tall structure, built using glue-laminated timber and cross-laminated timber (CLT), was designed by Australian architect Bates Smart.
Forming part of the 22ha Brisbane Showgrounds regeneration district, the building is raised on massive ‘v’-shaped supporting timber beams and features flexible open-plan office space, rainwater harvesting, energy efficient lighting and a green wall in the entrance lobby.
The building, much of which was fabricated off-site enabling a relatively short 15-month construction schedule, features around 6,300m³ of responsibly-source timber.
It also incorporates a range of fire safety measures which meet the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards.
Bates Smart director Philip Vivian said: “Each time an engineered timber project completes, architects learn more about CLT’s potential as a new building material and how we can work and innovate with it on all types of buildings.
“This building marks a genuine commitment to CLT from the industry.”
